Honk

As with many bands of the early 70s, Honk began as four musical friends, each with talent and originality. Making the circuit of concerts, bars and rock clubs in the Laguna Beach area, they came to the attention of Greg and Jim–who loved their music–and even more their fresh, honest personalities.

Teaming up on Five Summer Stories was a happy marriage. “We’d record a song in Hollywood, and I’d re-edit the film in Laguna to exactly match the intensity of the music, ” Greg recalls. “This way I could creatively get the most power from the music and the imagery.” The band’s Five Summer Stories music was then issued as an album and, surprisingly, became a hit. In Hawaii, the album was No. 1 on the charts for more than a month–knocking off albums by Elton John and The Eagles.

In later years, Honk toured as the opening band for Chicago and then The Beach Boys. The members of Honk (Steve Wood, Richard Stekol, Tris Imboden, Beth Fitchet, Will Brady, Don Whaley and Craig Buehler) have all gone on to successful solo careers–and, at one time, would gather together yearly for sold-out Honk reunion concerts throughout Southern California.
